Use of Antibiotics in Periodontitis

Abstract

This chapter discusses the role of antibiotics in the management of periodontal disease in the light of available evidence and contemporary professional guidelines. The indications, contraindications, dosage, and commercial preparations of antibiotics commonly used in the management of periodontal disease are explained with a focus on necrotising ulcerative periodontal diseases. The readers are signposted to useful online resources on antibiotic use in periodontal disease along with resources which may be used for patient education.
