Abstract
Observations of tidal internal waves are analyzed on the basis of moored long term measurements over a vast area in the Indian Ocean. It is shown that intensive waves generated over the Mascarene submarine ridge lose their energy while propagating across the ocean. Their amplitude decreases by 10% over a wave-length. After propagating 2000-3000 km from the source, wave amplitudes reach the background level. Analysis of observations is confirmed by calculations using a numerical model.
