Abstract
The climate crisis is escalating, with extreme weather events posing a significant threat to communities and livelihoods. The discourse around ‘climate crisis’ underscores the urgency and severity of the situation as well as the need for fundamental shifts in response. This chapter explores the role of humanitarian logistics and supply chain management (HLSCM) in addressing intensified climate extremes through the lens of vulnerability. Examining vulnerability from the perspectives of ‘end-point’ and ‘starting-point’, the chapter proposes a research agenda focused on incorporating social vulnerability into HLSCM planning and understanding the role of HLSCM in catalysing transformative adaptation to the climate crisis. By enhancing our understanding of vulnerability and adaptation, and considering the potential trade-offs and complexities involved in climate response strategies, HLSCM can play a crucial role in fostering resilience and sustainability in the face of the climate crisis.
