N2 - Choreography by Adam Benjamin for Exim Dance Company. Integrated dance piece incorporating film by Kayla Parker and Stuart Moore, and sound by Eduardo Miranda, Mathew Emmett and Andy Cowton. The Birth of Memory is a physical exploration of the memories we keep locked in our bodies, and the effort needed in the present, to find time to remember the past. Award winning choreographer Adam Benjamin delicately explores this concept, focusing on human relationships in a way which is exposing and unpredictable, but also at times comical. The work draws on film by Kayla Parker and Stuart Moore, and music by Eduardo Miranda, Mathew Emmett and Andy Cowton. The choreography is heavily influenced by the contributions of dance artists, Emma Pendle, Laura Henry, Mike Williams and particularly the raw, indefinable movement quality of dancer Kevin French whose muscles and speech are affected by cerebral palsy. The performance of The Birth of Memory features large-scale projection of Kayla Parker and Stuart Moore's 16mm films 'Verge: Nocturne', 'Heirloom' and 'Hold'.[Performed as part of the ImPACT tour: Cheltenham (12 June 2014); City College, Plymouth (17 June 2014); The Keay Theatre, St Austell (24 June 2014); The Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington, Devon (15 October 2014); Barbican Theatre Plymouth (24 October 2014); Cygnet Theatre Exeter (14 November 2014); The House, Plymouth (28 January 2015). Also presented at Resolution the UK’s biggest festival for new dance, The Place, London (29 January 2016), and at UK programme for the IV Annual Festival of Inclusive Theatre PROTEATR. International Meetings presented by British Council, Meyerhold Centre, Moscow; "The festival is a celebration of inclusive and innovative theatre projects featuring active participation from actors with disabilities. This year’s focus is on classical and contemporary dance. / The British Council supports the festival’s UK programme, showcasing artistic work from Exim Dance Company."
