Abstract
The administrative division of Lochtayside in 1769 was well established by the mid-fifteenth century and is reflected, at least implicitly, in the description of land found in medieval and early-modern records of landownership. A comparison of such records with later estate papers shows that an interlocking framework of territorial units existed which encompassed the whole of Highland Perthshire. The spatial and functional character of this territorial framework is described and mapped. Attention is then focused on the origin and development of the parish in Scotland. -from Author
