Abstract
Six substances of very high concern have been moved from the candidate list to the authorization list, known as Annex XIV, under the EU's REACH Regulation. Chemicals listed in Annex XIV are selected from a candidate list of substances of very high concern based on recommendations made by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The Commission has published a report on the progress of Member States in addressing water scarcity and droughts. The report confirms that water scarcity and drought is not limited to Mediterranean countries; apart from some sparsely-populated northern regions with abundant water resources, it is a growing issue across the EU. One of the main findings is an overall lack of awareness about the quantity of waste generated by individual households. According to the EU's statistical office, Eurostat, each citizen generates 513 kg of municipal waste each a year.
