Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Some of the strategic issues related to European Union and the effort made by the government to eradicate them are reviewed. Poverty eradication and sustainable development post 2015 is one of the issues. In July 2014, the UN General Assembly's Open Working Group proposed a set of 17 goals, with 169 targets. In December 2014, the UN Secretary General published a Synthesis Report and consultations with stakeholders and inter-governmental negotiations have taken place. The EEA has published a new report on renewable energy used in Europe, focused on recent growth and knock-on effects. State and Outlook Report (SOER 2015) was prepared by the European Environment Agency (EEA) as a joint undertaking in collaboration with the European environment information and observation network (Eionet) and the Commission. The report aims to offer a comprehensive assessment of the state, trends and prospects of the European environment, placing it in a global context. The Commission will also launch a consultation exercise to assist in shaping the next steps on ocean governance, simultaneously working to secure global political commitment for this agenda.
