SOAK LAB 2: Sonic Ecologies

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

This project developed and shared conversations with SOAK artists developing sound-based work. This strand of research developed from the first phase of SOAK and our LAB activity. Conversations explored field recordings, site-specific performance, memory and place, feminist performance, matrilineages and embodied histories.

This SOAK LAB was funded by an AHRC Impact Acceleration Award (IAA).

Two artist conversations were broadcast on Soundart radio as follows:
February 2025: SOAK Sounds conversation 1 (Emma Welton & Arun Sood)
March 2025: SOAK Sounds conversation 2 (Nuria Bonet & Rachel Gippetti)

For the next phase of the project, I devised a workshop exploring soundings and site-specific recordings with a group of artists working with sound and movement at Mountbatten Bay in collaboration (March 2025). These recordings formed the basis for the sound design for a new performance piece at the TRP LAB 'The Spiral' developed by Giorgia Ciampi in collaboration with Kerry Priest.
