    Abstract

The implementation and enforcement of EC environmental law during 2005 are surveyed. The survey identifies that whilst there has been a significant drop in number of open cases generally, the environment sector still accounted for 22.4% of the total number of open cases on non-compliance under investigation by the Commission. The survey recognizes that this number is unlikely to decrease since it is envisaged that the number of cases from new Member States will grow significantly.
