Searching for Leo Exhibition: Creative uses of the archive in a place of remembering and forgetting

Research output: Non-textual formExhibition

Abstract

An overview of the archive of Leopoldo Saviganc Batistini with visual interventions by the author.

[Exhibition of historical and contemporary photographs, 40+ pieces at Photomuseum, Zarautz, San Sebstian]

I have been focused on a multimodal research project based on the archive of my grandfather, Leopoldo Savignac, a photographer in Spain 1909-1948. I have compiled his archive and embarked on a conversation with his work through alternative photographic practices and creative non-fiction. Recently I have contacted the wider civic community to develop an approach to the historical memory work that has taken place in the decades after the Spanish civil war (1936-39) and the death of Franco (1975). The project will result in exhibition, publication and a wider impact agenda and a collaborative artists project on archives and interventions.
