Abstract
<jats:p> The relative response times of the ambulance and police services at serious motor vehicle crashes in the West Mercia region of the UK are reported. The police often arrive before the ambulance service. The types of immediate medical care which the police and other non-medical responders might administer are discussed. </jats:p>
