Researching exclusionary pressures in education: How inclusion becomes exclusion

Research output: Book/ReportEdited collectionpeer-review

Abstract

Researching Exclusionary Pressures in Education is the third companion text to International Perspectives on Exclusionary Pressures in Education, following Theorising Exclusionary Pressures in Education and Challenging Exclusionary Pressures in Education. It provides further case studies of specific national contexts, documenting both overt and more insidious policies, discourses and practices that inhibit the full and meaningful participation of all demographics in education systems globally. Contributors were also invited to outline their research methods as the book aims to illustrate the range of methodological approaches available to researchers of exclusionary policies, practices and discourses. The chapters evidence a broad understanding of inclusive education or in/exclusion, charting, for example, trends in the field, persistent and pernicious historical discourses, and recent pedagogic developments. The book is intended for an international audience and for teacher educators, students, practitioners, and advocates seeking informed accounts of key issues in education, particularly those related to the politics of difference and inclusion. It includes chapters on conflict, forced migration and internal displacement in specific geopolitical contexts and the exclusionary pressures evidenced in conflict scenarios.
