Abstract

The UK Department of Health guidelines introduced in March 2001 aimed to improve research quality and safeguard the public by enhancing the ethical and scientific quality of research. It also aimed to promote good practice, reducing adverse incidents, ensuring that lessons would be learnt and preventing poor performance and misconduct. This framework applies to all within health and social care who participate in research and those who host, fund, manage and undertake research.
