Abstract
Quality of life is a causal sequence of symptoms, problems and evaluations affected by both morbidity and psychological factors. Perceptions of health are based on the cognitive appraisal of problems that occur as a result of activities undertaken or avoided and emotional evaluation which involves both preoccupation and distress as a result of illness. A structured assessment of quality of life can be obtained by the use of questionnaires. These feature series of scored questions that are grouped into sections. Correlation between change in lung function and change in quality of life as measured by asthma-specific questionnaires has been shown in clinical trials. However, a weakness of the current quality-of-life questionnaires is their inability to measure positive and negative life quality independently of one another.
