Abstract

Music video with an environmental message directed and produced by Kayla Parker in collaboration with Stuart Moore and Sundog Media, and Plymouth-based BAME young people. Created for the Wild Ideas project, run by the Wildscreen Trust on behalf of the Bristol Natural History Consortium.

The research asked: ‘What ideas about wildlife, ecology and the environment are important to young people? What audiovisual forms will the young people create to express their key messages?’

After the film’s premiere at the IMAX cinema in Bristol, community screenings were held across South West Britain, followed by the distribution of 5000 Wild Ideas DVDs, which included the 6 commissioned films, including Perfect World, and a ‘making of’ documentary. The young people chose the Place de Brest in the heart of Plymouth City Centre as the location for the community screening of their Perfect World music video: a temporary cinema was set up for the day, with seating and a high resolution image projector and sound system, and attracted hundred of viewers.

The music video was the Jury's Special Selection: for “outstanding creativity” at the 2006 International Wildscreen Film Festival, Bristol (It was also nominated for the ‘Panda in the Pocket’ Award, and screened in the cinema at Watershed in the finalists' programme).
