Abstract

Waves in the open sea are random in both elevation and direction of motion. However standard design guidelines such as API-LRFD recommend the use of regular uni-directional wave theories. This paper reviews the influence of wave randomness on the reliable prediction of extreme loads on drag-dominated space-frame structures in severe storms.
