New high rate low density parity check codes for multi-track recording

Abstract

A high rate low density parity check codes (LDPC) for multi-track recording was presented. The system used consisted of a serial concatenation of an LDPC code and a partial response (PR) class 4 channel. The results showed that LDPC codes with cycles of length 4 could be decoded with a gain of upto 0.5dB at code rates of 0.8.
