Abstract
New development concepts and materials have been found to reduce the Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for production runs that require plastic injection tooling. For a system with a low initial capital cost but an increased maintenance cost the LCC need not increase compared to a high capital cost tool. Further enhancements may be made should the tool require modification or become redundant before completing the anticipated life cycle. However, with repairable surfaces a modular tool may have an infinite lifetime and allow flexibility for design modifications during the production cycle.
