Abstract

Ward was involved in Times In Between Conference and Film Festival (10-13 July), which was organised by Romana Turina (Bournemouth University) and supported by the Bucanevis cultural organisationhttps://bucanevisnewsletter.com/conferenza/. The event involved practitioner-researchers from across Europe, Taiwan, and the USA.

The panel - Archive | Movement | Borders - involved Kayla Parker, Stuart Moore, Sefryn Penrose, Linda Ward and Katie Davies. We brought together artist-researchers from the southwest of England with interests in moving image work that explores questions of movement and borders through memory and archive. From the individual and personal remembered landscapes of the Mary River to the politicised and regulated spaces of divided countries and cities, we consider the ways in which landscapes and law produce emplacement and displacement. Rivers, waterways, families and legal systems are understood as contested, navigable and in flux.

Films were shown in the Official Selection of the festival: Divided by Law (2021, Katie Davies), Father-land (2018, Stuart Moore and Kayla Parker), Mary River (2019, Linda Ward), Swan Out (2024, Sefryn Penrose and Angela Piccini)
