Abstract
This article discusses the development of a land use policy in a national park. Specific reference is made to the woodland policy of the Peak Park Joint Planning Board, 1951–1985, using archive material. A range of factors are identified which are of importance to the process of policy formulation and implementation, and which provide insights into the effectiveness of land use policy.
