N2 - Mortality rates in people with epilepsy are higher than expected, and epilepsy mortality rates in the United Kingdom, United States and the world are increasing. The causes for this increase in mortality rates are not well defined, however they may include increased reporting, increased prevalence, ineffective treatment of preventable risk factors, or ineffective prevention of epilepsy-specific mortality (e.g. SUDEP). The aim of this Research Topic is to provide a scholarly forum for original cutting edge research that addresses epilepsy mortality, epilepsy comorbidities, and interventions to reduce the risk of preventable death in people with epilepsy.
