Abstract

Recent advances in edge computing develop novel solutions to the existing limitations of Metaverse. However, those advances require massive data that introduces new security and privacy concerns that must be addressed. In this paper, we study the implications of edge computing in the Metaverse and propose a set of guidelines to balance the security and privacy concerns that arise with the technologies. In particular, we review existing security and privacy technologies and analyze their effectiveness in the context of the Metaverse. Besides, we present the solutions using edge computing in the Metaverse to tackle security and privacy concerns and illustrate how to balance them through case studies. In particular, this paper aims to provide insights into how edge computing can be safely implemented in the Metaverse and highlights the need for proper security and privacy measures to be put in place to protect sensitive data using edge computing. The guidelines and recommendations proposed in this paper can be used as a basis for future research and development of edge comnuting in the Metaverse.
