Abstract
Examples of illustration found within the majority of book apps on the iPad platform consist largely of work from non professional, anonymous sources. The ease at which one can self-publish on this platform suggests that the illustration community and the publishing industry as a whole has been slow to embrace the possibilities it offers.
This discursive presentation argues that boundaries between illustration practice and digital practice are often constructed by illustrators but are in fact arbitrary and should be dismissed.
Ways of doing this are proposed by looking models utilised in game apps in which collaboration with a programmer and taking a more proactive authorial role enables technical and conceptual hurdles to be overcome.
