Abstract
Many of the problems related to technical, market, and financial inadequacies in developments have as their main cause the inefficiency of the design process. This important process, as observed by several researchers, takes place in an informal manner, usually developed in an unplanned and fragmented way, without a global and integrated vision between design and production. There is a clear lack of integration and communication among the various agents involved.
On the other hand, Brazilian builders and developers, following global trends, have begun to seek methodologies and management models for the project development process. This trend aims to add quality to products and processes and, consequently, ensure better satisfaction of both internal and external clients.
The main objective of this research is to diagnose the management practices of the design process in the civil construction market in the city of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. For data collection, the author uses field research, conducting structured interviews with technical managers from 20 companies in the aforementioned region. The results obtained from the interviews are compared with the theoretical framework, thus proposing a diagnosis of project management practices, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement in this important process.
