Abstract

Digital filters find widespread use in the processing of biomedical signals, both for the reduction of out-of-band noise and in feature extraction. An important requirement in the processing of biomedical signals is that the distortion introduced should be minimal. This paper considers the ideal and achievable characteristics of filters required in this area, examines the current methods of filter design to verify their suitability, and examines their implementation using available 16 bit processors. Some applications of filters in Electroencephalography are discussed.
