Abstract
I share the concern voiced by Millington (2001) about the new incapacity benefit tests. While I appreciate that his primary concern was about the poverty faced by disabled people, I have a concern about the support for those people deemed able to look for work. For occupational therapists, vocational rehabilitation is a major consideration. This is because occupation, of which work is an aspect, ‘is one of the means by which everyone is able to realize their potential; cope with their environment; and live as healthily as possible. Thus, the occupational therapist is able to use all forms of occupation as therapeutic measures to promote healthy and satisfying lifestyles.’ (Bumphrey, 1995.)
