Bridging the Gap - Enhancing Student engagement

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

With rising demands on pre-hospital services leading to longer waiting times outside Emergency Departments, student paramedics' access to learning opportunities has diminished. Where pre-pandemic, around 10 cases a day were typical, this has now decreased to 3-4.

To bridge this gap and support students during their learning, DLE tools are being optimised to facilitate discussions, critical inquiry, and student engagement.

In the first year of use, over five months, growth has been observed not only in the number of readers but also in re-readers, as individuals develop new habits for accessing learning material through a combination of signposting and gamification—further encouraging participation by sharing experiences with peers. Core academic principles are promoted to enhance academic and early career transitional skills.
