Abstract

Sewage sludge is being generated in ever increasing amounts and the dilemma centres on how to find an environmentally acceptable way to utilise sewage. The problems encountered are commonly those of contamination with pathogenic organisms and chemicals and those of a practical, logistic nature. This paper considers these problems and suggests some ways in which they may be overcome. It is essential that sewage is treated appropriately so that sludge can be used beneficially in the environment. (A)
