Abstract

<jats:p> Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a life-threatening condition that is common in critically ill patients. Historically, diagnosis has been difficult and prognosis has been poor, but the Berlin definition and developments in medical therapies provide promise that we can improve outcomes for these patients in the future. </jats:p>
