Abstract
In orthotropic composite materials the velocity profile of an expanding stress wave is not circular. Experimental velocities and Young's moduli are determined and correlated with a view to in-situ measurement of mechanical properties. The location of the source of the acoustic emission is determined from wavefront arrival times at a four tranducer array.
