Abstract

47˚c explores how film can deepen public understanding of the climate crisis through observational documentary and intuitive visual storytelling. The research bridges visual art and science, using film as a critical tool to reshape how we imagine and respond to climate change.

Focusing on the decades-long study of the Edith’s Checkerspot butterfly in Sierra Nevada (California) by scientists Camille Parmesan and Michael Singer, the film highlights the real-world effects of climate change on biodiversity.
By integrating artistic practice with scientific collaboration, the film challenges conventional documentary forms to foster new ways of engaging with complex environmental issues.
