    Project Details

    Overview

Plymouth Pathfinder was an initial two-year programme, commencing in December 2020, funded by Sport England, and delivered by Active Devon on behalf of Plymouth City Council. Plymouth Pathfinder aimed to maximise the benefits physical activity can bring to two cohorts of children and young people with the most potential to gain; those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACE); and those who have special educational needs (SEN). Using a person-centred approach, the programme aimed to help maximise their potential by developing coping strategies and tools to improve their wellbeing and resilience and, as a result, support them into adulthood and benefit the next generation of families. The programme involved partners taking a systems-based approach to physical activity in order to understand what needs to happen to achieve these outcomes.

In October 2021 PCC commissioned the Social Research Unit to conduct an external evaluation of Plymouth Pathfinder focusing on the first theory of change. The evaluation explored outcomes experienced by the young people engaged in the programme, as well as the system change achieved across Plymouth as a result of the work.
