Overview
Trevi received funding from The Home Office and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to develop Blossom House. Blossom House has capacity for nine women (seven residential beds, two crisis beds) and is designed specifically for women who have been involved with the criminal justice system. The house provides a range of wrap around support and interventions to help women reintegrate into society. In addition to the residential support offered through Blossom House, Trevi also provided outreach support, fulfilled by their Assertive Outreach Practitioners (AOPs). Trevi also led on the Sparkles project, which aimed to prevent violence against, and homelessness, in women aged 25 and under.
The Social Research Unit (SRU) was commissioned as an Evaluation Partner to assess the learning and impact of Blossom House, Blossom Outreach and Sparkles.
The methodology included:
- Analysis of monitoring data - The SRU analysed the available monitoring data, which included a range of demographic data of the women being supported, alongside data highlighting the activities and interventions the women engaged in, and the onward destinations of the women leaving Blossom House.
- Focus groups with women - Given the sensitive nature of the research, and vulnerability of the women involved, it was
most appropriate for one of the Trevi team to recruit for and conduct the focus groups with women directly. The SRU delivered an evaluation training session for Trevi staff which involved a comprehensive overview of techniques and understanding required for
conducting and facilitating focus groups, as well as detailed run through of the topic guides.
- Focus groups and interviews with the delivery team - The SRU conducted face to face focus groups with the delivery team and interviews with key delivery staff, one directly involved with Blossom House and the other directly with women under 25 and being
supported through Sparkles.
- Focus groups and interviews with key stakeholders - The SRU also conducted focus groups and interviews with external key stakeholders, which explored perceptions of the impact of the project at a local level, the effectiveness of local partnership arrangements, and any strategic added value gained.
