Project Title: Efficacy and mode of action of functional feed additives to alleviate dietary-induced inflammation in the intestine of model aquaculture species

Director of Studies: Dr Daniel Merrifield

2nd Supervisor: Dr Victor Kuri

As part of efforts to improve the sustainability of aquaculture diets, my research seeks to gain a better understanding of the potential of yeast-derived functional feed additives to reduce intestinal inflammatory pathologies in fish. Specific programme objectives are to investigate the effects of functional feed additives on intestinal mucosal tolerance and microbiome structure, and to elucidate the impacts of localised intestinal level modulations on whole fish performance, health and welfare.
