Sam has been a member of the Occupational Therapy team at Plymouth University since 2017. Sam graduated from Northumbria University with a MSc in Occupational Therapy and have worked in Acute physical health settings since 2012 in several roles within Occupational Therapy. Sam has also worked within homeless services for children and young adults and mental health and learning disabilities within differing roles across the South West and North East of England. Before her role as an Occupational Therapist, Sam previously gained a BSc in Health and Complementary Therapies in 2012. Sam completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PgCAP) in 2020 and is now a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Sam's interests involve older adults and ensuring that older adults remain embedded within communities and have the services to remain healthy, active and engaged within society. Her current PhD research is exploring the role occupational therapy can have within primary care for older adults with long term conditions.Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Sam is on the steering group for the development of Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Credentials for Occupational Therapist within Primary Care in collaboration with Health Education England (HEE).
Sam is mostly engaged in teaching on the BSc in Occupational Therapy but also teaching and completes marking across the Pre and Post registration MSc/APP programmes including direct entry students from partner colleges. Sam is the academic facilitator for the PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Scheme) within Occupational Therapy at the University of Plymouth. Sam also works closely with local further education schools and colleges to promote occupational therapy. Sam's recent completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) has sparked deeper interest in developing strategies to support international students on health professional programs.
