Dr Nicolas Farina is an Associate Professor in Dementia Research with over a decade of experience in applied dementia studies. His work focuses on understanding and improving the quality of life of people living with dementia, with a particular emphasis on global health, stigma reduction, and pragmatic applied dementia research.

Dr Farina has led key work packages for the STRiDE project, contributing to efforts to strengthen dementia care and support systems in middle‑income countries. His other international research has included implementing dementia screening in rural Kenya and exploration of dementia stigma in Pakistan. He is an advocate for raising global awareness about dementia and leads research exploring public attitudes, stigma, and ways to support more inclusive societies for people living with dementia.

Across his career, Dr Farina has contributed to and led a wide range of dementia research initiatives spanning global health, technology‑enabled care, and large‑scale cohort studies. Key work has included co‑leading DEM‑SKY, which implemented dementia screening in rural Kenya; RadioMe, a project exploring personalised music and radio to reduce agitation in dementia; managing the MODEM cohort study. This in addition to establishing research and data‑collection infrastructures for major dementia studies such as Time for Dementia and DETERMIND.

Dr Farina leads key research infrastructure within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (PenARC) Dementia Theme and the Alzheimer's Society I‑Care Doctoral Training Centre.
