Profile summary
Nick joined the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences in August 2024. He is a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and has worked across academia and practice. Nick is actively contributing to the university's MSc Planning, together with other modules associated with human geography and environmental management.
Before joining the University of Plymouth, Nick was an Associate at Land Use Consultants (LUC) in Bristol and worked within the company's strategic planning team. Through this role, Nick undertook a range of work for a variety of clients including Natural England, the Environment Agency, the RTPI and the Office for Environmental Protection. For Natural England, Nick helped with the promotion of the Green Infrastructure Framework and ran a variety of training and engagement sessions across the country. Nick has also worked for Terence O'Rourke, a multidisciplinary company based in Bournemouth. Through this role, Nick worked on a range of large mixed-use and housing-led schemes, and a series of regeneration projects, many of which had a coastal dimension to them.
Before joining LUC, Nick spent 15 years at the University of the West of England in Bristol. Starting as a lecturer in planning, Nick progessed to become an Associate Head within the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and lead of the UWE Bristol Planning Scheme. Nick designed, led and contributed to a range of programmes and modules, including a degree apprenticeship scheme in planning and programmes in planning and environmental management for the Global College of Environment and Technology in Oman.
Nick is an active member of the RTPI and has had a variety of national and regional roles.
He is currently studying a part-time PhD focused on the delivery of green infrastructure in major residential development.
