Overview
Profile summary
In 2007 after returning from a Ski season in France, I joined South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) as a High Dependency Care Assistant working in patient transport providing interhospital transfers and attending/transporting non urgent GP urgent admissions. Quickly I returned home to Gloucestershire and started work as an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) working for the then Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) later South Western Ambulance Service.
In 2009 I went part time for GWAS and studied Paramedic Science at the University of the West of England (UWE) as part of the infamous ‘Cohort 3’ graduating in 2011. In 2013 whilst working full time I began my ‘top up’ degree in ‘Applied Paramedic Science’ BSc (Hons) gaining, first class and dean’s list honours. At this time for SWASfT, I worked as a mentor and was one of Gloucestershire’s first Practice Placement Educators (PPEd) and SWAMP trained Paramedics.
In 2016 I decided to leave my full-time role with SWASfT (I still hold a bank contract) and started a new adventure working in primary care as a visiting Paramedic and later Clinical Lead for the Primary Care Visiting Service (PCVS) serving the Principal Medical Federation’s GP surgeries, Oxfordshire. The Federation consisted of 48 GP practices all with their own ideas/resources and unique challenges that pooled resources creating Principal Medical Ltd (A subsidiary of the
federation that tendered for NHS contracts on behalf of the GP surgeries). This led me to working at Advanced Practice level for Eynsham GP Surgery, Oxfordshire. In primary care I worked very hard and was lucky to become one of the first 140 prescribing paramedics and then later I gained a masters degree in advanced practice.
