Dr Marius Varga

    Overview

    Profile summary

I am a Research Fellow in the Centre for Health Technology (CHT), currently working on the EPSRC funded Intergenerational Codesign Of Novel technologies In Coastal communities (ICONIC) project. ICONIC was set up to tackle digital exclusion in Cornwall and Devon through the community-based co-design of novel technologies that support access to heritage, the environment, and the local community. I am looking after the Extended Reality (XR) and the Social Games packages in the ICONIC project.

I am also involved in the BRIDGING project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research for Social Care (RfSC). The BRIDGING project is a three-year project using extended reality training with autistic employees and employers to support entry and retainment within the workplace and reduce the autism employment gap.

An additional significant project that I am currently working on is the Glide - Tackling FrailtyThis project presents a unique and innovative approach to frailty prevention, combining immersive technology with low-impact physical exercises to enhance mobility by using a custom-made paragliding rig that I built, complete with a genuine paragliding harness and integrating an immersive environment.

Before I joined CHT, I completed my PhD - Immersive Multidimensional Data Visualisation using Geon Based Objects - as part of the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics with a focus on visualisation of complex large data sets in Virtual Reality using advanced game technologies. I have 11 years experience in teaching in higher education, leading and writing new modules. Topics that I taught are based around game technologies, AI for games, programming, game mechanics, graphics. I am proficient in using the current 3 most popular game engines: Unreal, Unity and Godot.
