Overview
Profile summary
I have always had a passion for the sciences, particularly Biology, thus after graduating with a BSc Hons in Applied & Human Biology at Aston University and visiting a local x-ray department in Walsall, I decided that Radiography would be my career of choice. I studied diagnostic radiography at the University of Central England (UCE now BCU) and successfully qualified in 2002. I attained my first Diagnostic Radiographer job at the same NHS hospital that had inspired my passion for radiography, I gained experience in Plain film, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear medicine, Cath Lab, and CT, eventually progressing to become superintendent radiographer. I left the Midlands in 2012 when I relocated to Devon to work as an advanced practice radiographer/lead radiographer at Derriford Hospital (UHPT).
I joined the University of Plymouth in 2019 for the commencement of the diagnostic radiography programme as an honorary lecturer part-time. Since then, I have transitioned into a full-time clinical lecturer role after 21 years’ service as an NHS diagnostic radiographer with a specialist interest in my chosen field of advanced practice, Musculoskeletal plain film image reporting. I feel very fortunate to be able to share my practical knowledge & expertise and passion for image interpretation with our radiographers of the future.
During my time at the university, I have developed a keen interest for small groups enquiry-based learning via my role as module lead for Year 1. Observing how our learners develop their research, discussion, and study skills over the duration of the programme is incredibly rewarding. Student well-being is extremely important to me, and I have a keen enthusiasm to ensure that the student experience is positive and nurturing via my roles as personal tutor and as Head of Year 2.
I am looking forward to expanding my role in academia and in collaboration with my peers help to develop an innovative and inspiring programme of study for our students.
