    Profile summary

    Dr Lise Hunter brings to her academic career a waelth of experience  and expertise that have informed her academic practice in teaching, research, enterprise and stakeholders' engagement. 
    Her expertise in International Finance and Trade (working successively as Senior Finance Officer with the African Development Bank, and Trade and Investment with the UK FCDO) and Business Consultancy supporting SMEs internationalisation, brings a unique insight to bridge academia, industry and the world of work.  
     
    Dr Hunter has a consistent and successful track record in co-designing, developing and delivering programmes for university and industry learning. She successfully designed and launched the BSc Hons Management Practice Top-Up as a progression route for people in work; recruiting consistently among large organisations, SMEs and the third sector. This programme laid the foundation for the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship which she developed and led successfully, including training academic and work-based tutors. She was appointed external examiner to Ulster University for the BSc Management programme  and contributed to their successful internationalisation. 
     
    Understanding the world of work in respect of skills requirements and alignment with learning underpins Dr Hunter's abilities to develop excellent relationships with industry. Recent examples include the Thames Freeport Skills Accelerator and AI-led Curriculum for Senior Leaders and CPD for Trainers, which she has been leading successfully since 2024. 
     
    Dr Hunter's research interest began with her PhD thesis exploring the role of social capital and leadership on SMEs competitiveness with empirical study in the SouthWest food sector. This work led to further investigation into small farm business and agri-food value chain, resulting in research  on Small Farm and Technology Adoption funded by Devon County Council under the UK Community Renewal Fund; and successful research partnerships in Nigeria. Prior to this, Dr Hunter  conducted  a UK Government funded  research into entrepreneurship education in eastern Africa, exploring the impact of contextual factors in entrepreneurial learning  and market development. The study findings have contributed to former DFID's policy on "Making Markets Work for the Poor". 
     
    Dr Hunter is currently Co-Investigator alongside Queens University Belfast on a 4-year UKRI project investigating factors affecting Supply Chain  Resilience in food, textile and critical mineral sectors. She is also leading a discussion group on UK SCALE (Supply Chain  and Logistics Excellence Centre) led by Loughborough University, bringing together academia and industry practitioners to explore emerging research areas.
    Dr Hunter has a track record of successfull research supervision at BSc, MSc, PhD and DBA levels, with eihgt successful doctoral superivsion to date.
    Dr Hunter is a peer reviewer for UKRI funding application and International Journal for Entrepreneurial Behaviour  and Research - IJEBR, and the Journal of Resaearch in Marketing and Entrepreneurship - JRME.
    Dr Hunter's experience and expertise brings a multiperspective approach to her role as a personal turor, something she cares profoundly about. 
     
    Since 2019, Dr Hunter has been a member of the South West Business Council Advisory Board. She holds several professional accredittion and membership .

    Financial Accounting and Managerial Decision Making: Knowledge and expertise in financial management, budgeting and investment decision making applicable to Maritime and International Trade

    Personal Tutoring and Employability: Although not an academic module, this is certainly an important part of my role. To help students understand that human capital is made of knowledge, skills and understanding of the real world of work is essential. However, to explain that in real life attitude matters most and provides a leverage to make us who we are in a holistic sense is something I value and a responsibility I take very wholeheartedly. It is equally important to help students recognise and develop skills that industry will need in the years to come so that they can make informed career choices and achieve the best of their potential.
