Overview
Profile summary
Associate Lecturer in Nursing (Mental Health)
I am a registered mental health nurse specialising in dementia care. I have worked in both community and long-term settings and for the NHS and private sector, including; acute in-patient, recovery, dementia care nursing homes, continuing healthcare, dementia care community and mental health/dementia research. I have spent most of my career in Cornwall other than six months in New Zealand, where I worked in an acute in-patient unit in the South Island.
I completed a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded PhD through PenCLAHRC (now PenARC) May 2020, as part of the Research Capacity in Dementia Care Programme (RCDCP). My project explored how and why memory cafes work for people with dementia and their carers, using a realist approach. This was inspired by my personal experience of co-developing and running a memory cafe in Cornwall.
