Overview
Profile summary
Dr. Laura Evenstar is a geomorphologist and sedimentologist specialising in the interaction between climate and tectonics, particularly in arid regions such as the Atacama Desert (Chile), Helmand Province (Afghanistan), and the southwestern United States. She holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Leeds and a PhD from the University of Aberdeen.
In 2024, Dr. Evenstar joined the University of Plymouth as an Associate Professor, where she focuses on critical metals essential for the energy transition, including rare earth elements (REE) and copper.
Her work explores the dynamics of tectonics and climate in various arid regions. Before joining Plymouth, she was with the University of Brighton starting in 2019. Earlier in her career, she served as a Senior Research Associate and Senior Teaching Associate at the University of Bristol, where she led research funded by BHP Mining Company on landscape evolution in Northern Chile and its connections to supergene enrichment mineralisation. She also worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen, investigating the interactions between terrestrial depositional systems and salt diapirs, a project supported by a consortium of industry companies.
