ECR representative for the Royal Society of Chemistry South West Regional Steering Group
I am a lecturer who teaches on
Chemistry and
Environmental Science, supporting modules across the programs from foundation level through to masters. As a lecturer in Environmental Chemistry with a rich research background in academic and industry settings, I am passionate about fostering a deep understanding of the intricate relationships between chemical processes and our environment.
Teaching Focus: Advanced Topics in Porous Materials: Uncovering the secrets of porous materials, from nuclear graphites to shale and beyond. I work with third-year students to explore a comprehensive journey into studying, characterising, and modelling materials crucial to diverse applications, including nuclear reactor design, environmental pollution and building materials. I have also assisted in the supervision of many undergraduate Chemistry students during their third-year research projects and PhD graduates.
Analytical Chemistry: Chemical Analysis and Instrumentation: We explore the art and science of precise measurement. Enriched by my research experience, these sessions equip students with hands-on skills in cutting-edge analytical techniques. Environmental Chemistry: We delve into the fascinating interplay between chemicals and ecosystems and explore the impact of pollutants, regulatory frameworks, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
