Accepting PhD Students
Dr Katie Angliss is an experienced academic leader with over a decade of expertise in business education, curriculum development, and strategic workforce planning. In her current role as Portfolio Lead for Business Management at Plymouth Business School, she oversees portfolio and curriculum management, driving innovation within the Business Management group to ensure programmes remain future-focused and industry aligned. She leads a large multidisciplinary team and contributes to School-wide strategy, accreditation processes, and resource planning. Dr Angliss’s leadership experience has centred on enhancing staff capability, ensuring that capability building and organisational needs remain closely aligned.
As an educator, she is praised for delivering high-quality, contemporary, and innovative teaching, as evidenced through outstanding student feedback. Through her teaching on modules such as Business Strategy and Consultancy, she collaborates with external organisations to facilitate high-impact consultancy projects that embed real-world experience into the curriculum, strengthening students’ practical and employability skills.
A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Dr Angliss is committed to inclusive, high-quality learning and evidence-based practice. She brings strong analytical, communication, and project management skills to her leadership, using data-driven insights to support performance enhancement, informed decision-making, and meaningful engagement with industry and the wider community.

A particular focus within my teaching is to develop knowledge and skills of students to ensure they are competitive within the graduate market. Engaging with local businesses to develop the curriculum, as well as provide live client briefs to support student learning is key within my practice.
Within the business strategy and consultancy module, I mentor groups of students to solve and address issues faced by local organisations. This includes a detailed analysis of the organisations, recognising gaps and providing strategic recommendations.
I have previously been the lead trainer for delivering the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Managing Safely qualification - an internationally recognised qualification for health and safety, which is delivered to the BSc (hons) Event Management students as part of their curriculum.
