    Overview

    Profile summary

I am an experienced medical educator with a particular interest in undergraduate and postgraduate assessment. I lead the largest module in the BMBS programme, Medical Knowledge, which accumulates 220 credits over 5 years. As module lead, I collaborate with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, provide extensive training for our Academic Tutors, and support Senior Academic Tutors.
I am deeply committed to supporting students throughout their academic journey, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure their success and well-being. As Module Lead, I liaise with national bodies, including the MSC and GMC, to prepare for the newly established national final Medical Licensing Examination. I work closely with both students and staff to ensure that our stage 5 students are well-prepared for the final Applied Knowledge Test and that our School is equipped for the in-house delivery of the MLA AKT.
I become a Module Lead for Medical and Clinical Competencies stages 1-4 in a newly approved Medical Doctor Degree Apprenticeship (MDDA) programme starting in 2025.
With postgraduate degrees in physiology and genetics, I also lead the teaching of physiology and nutrition alongside my colleagues. I apply my expertise to the development of the BMBS and MDDA programmes, as well as to other initiatives such as the Physician Associate programme. I teach all aspects of physiology, pathophysiology, and nutrition across three programmes: undergraduate BMBS and Clinical Radiography, and the postgraduate Physician Associate programme. I also developed nutrition sessions in collaboration with clinical colleagues from Derriford Hospital, focusing on the nutritional management of patients with various illnesses.
My research background includes significant experience as an independent Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow, which informs my scholarship. My primary interest lies in assessment, particularly the evolution of progress testing, a topic reflected in my publications and presentations, and supported by extensive national (PT Consortium) and international collaborations.
