Dr Jodie Fisher

    Overview

    Profile summary

I am a marine geoscientist, using micropalaeontology and geochemistry to investigate palaeoclimates, tephrochronology and the impact of volcanism on ocean biota. I utilise multidisciplinary techniques to understand global change both in the geological past and the modern environment. I also have a keen interest in blue carbon, particulalry linked to coastal seagrass and the sediments and micro-biota associated with them.

I am the Science Communication, Applications and EDI Manager for the IODP3 Science Office, hosted at the University of Plymouth. The Science Office supports all scientific aspects of IODP3, enabling international scientific collaboration addressing important questions in the Earth, ocean, environmental, and life sciences described in the 2050 Science Framework, based on the study of rock and/or sediment cores, borehole imaging, in situ observatory data, and related geophysical imaging obtained from the subseafloor.

With a passion for communicating science I also undertake talks, workshops and geoscience sessions for schools, designed and implemented the Royal William Yard Geotrail in Plymouth, and am co-founder of the award winning Girls into Geoscience initiative.
