Profile summary

Graduating in 1992, Joanne completed her MSc with distinction in Podiatric Biomechanics in 2002. She received a Doctorate from the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2008, having conducted a randomised control trial evaluating the effect of insoles used for ulcer prevention in diabetic neuropathic feet. 

Joanne is a past NIHR Research Fellow. She has extensive clinical experience as a Musculoskeletal Specialist Podiatrist working with the diabetic foot. Her current clinical focus is improving the patient experience through the better delivery of insoles for diabetic foot protection.

Joanne leads the BEUP (Behaviour Enhancement and Ulcer Prevention) research team at the University of Plymouth. She has secured grants in excess of one million pounds and published widely on the topic of insoles for ulcer prevention and balance enhancement in diabetes.
