Profile summary
Dr James Tarling is an interdisciplinary researcher and lecturer of music, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). He is a practicing musician, writer and performer with a record out this year on Hungersleep Records that features ex-members of King Crimson and The House of Love/Levitation.
He has been awarded 'Highly Recommended' Times Education Supplement Teacher of the Year and currently leads a Youth Music 'Trailblazer' project which explores the impact of Open Mic Nights, the value of the arts and how SEND communities contribute to the creative economy.
An advocate of public engagement with research, his research has been featured on the BBC Radio Devon, FE Research Podcast and the Voyages of Discovery Festival. He has delivered papars at several conferences including the Association of Music Educators and British Education Research Association.
James has thirty years’ experience of teaching, education leadership and creative practice that spans music, film making and writing. His creative work has been featured at The Cannes Film Festival, on BBC Radio 2, Channel 4 and The History Channel.
