Profile summary
Dr. Gianni Corino (MSc, PhD) is an Associate Professor of Interactive Media at the University of Plymouth. With a strong background in digital design and interdisciplinary research, he has taught and led several academic programmes, including the BA/BSc Digital Art and Technology, BA/BSc Digital Media Design, and the MRes in Digital Art and Technology.
He also spearheaded the development of the BA Game Art and Design, MA Game Design and the TNE dual award with Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA). More recently he launched CODEX, an intercultural and interdisciplinary postgraduate research programme in collaboration with top Chinese Art Design and Architecture Universities.
Dr. Corino is passionate about international and intercultural collaboration in higher education, contributing to numerous projects across all levels of education in his role as Associate Head of School for Internationalisation and Head of the Joint Institute project. He currently serves as the University of Plymouth coordinator and UK Creative Industry lead for the British Council-supported UK–Jiangsu Consortium of Universities.
His research focuses on performativity, embodied socio-technical networks, and emergent technological practices at the intersection of the physical and digital. He explores themes such as AI, big data, immersive technologies, and the Internet of Things, with a particular interest in speculative and philosophical approaches to design. Recently, his work has expanded into the domain of food design and food futures.
His practice lies at the intersection of interaction design, speculative design, playful experiences, and interactive arts.
